Genvieve Curran was born to Mr.
and Mrs. J. Laskey of Ashtabula Ohio in 1912. She
grew
up on Cherry Street in Ashtabula all of her life. She
attended St. Mary's Gradeschool and graduated from eight grade in
1926. Genevieve became known affectionately as
"Jimmy" to those who loved her, and the nickname stuck
with her all her life. She attended St. Luke's Highschool from
1926-1930 where she played on a champion girls basketball team.
Mrs. Curran continued to reside in Ashtabula with her parents while
attending Nursing School. Shortly after graduating from nursing
school, she met Oral John Curran, from Toledo, through a mutual friend.
Mrs. Curran often said that Oral
and her enjoyed each other's company from the
moment they met. It didn't take long for them to announce their
engagement in the Ashtabula Herald and the wedding date was set.
Oral Curran and Genevieve Laskey Curran were married on September 16,
1932 at Good Shepard Church in Toledo Ohio. There were over 70
guests in attendance.
Genevieve and Oral's first baby
was a boy.... Jeremiah Thomas Curran... Born April
13,
1943 at St. Charles Hospital. Jeremiah was born at 1:43 AM and
weighed in at 7lbs 8ozs and was 21 inches long. When asked to
reflect on "Jerry" Genevieve said he was always a high
energy, fun loving boy. Currently Jeremiah is a Physician's
Assistant for The Rehabilitation Center, is married to Linda
(Ackerman) Curran.
Their second child was another boy
... Patrick John Curran.... Born April 13, 1943 at St. Charles
Hospital. Jeremiah was born at 1:43 AM and weighed in at 7lbs 8ozs
and was 21 inches long. When asked to reflect on
"Pat" Genevieve said he was always a high energy, fun
loving boy. Currently Pat is a History Teacher for
Toledo Public Schools, is married to Joan Curran.
Their
third child was another boy ... John Jack Curran.... Born April
13, 1943 at St. Charles Hospital. Jeremiah was born at 1:43 AM and
weighed in at 7lbs 8ozs and was 21 inches long. When asked to
reflect on "Jack" Genevieve said he was always a high
energy, fun loving boy. Currently Jack is a Supervisor
at John Mansville, is married to Peggy Curran.
Their fourth and final child was
another boy ... Kevin Curran.... Born April 13, 1943 at St.
Charles Hospital. Kevin was born at 1:43 AM and weighed in at 7lbs
8ozs and was 21 inches long. When asked to reflect on kevin
Genevieve said he was always a high energy, fun loving boy.
Currently Kevin is a recruiter of medical doctors.
Genevieve was a registered nurse
for 30 years. She spent most of those years on the floor serving
the ill and touching lives. Late in her career she took the
knowledge and wisdom gained through her years of nursing and put it to
good use as a Nursing Instructor for Mercy's Nursing School.
Genevieve taught over 400 nurses prior to retiring in 1978. Many
of these nurses reflect on her impact on their lives. Debbie
Ablegan said " It was Jimmy who inspired me to become and nurse and
I thank her for who I am today."
Genevieve first became a
grandmother when Jerry had his first daughter Colleen
Marie Curran. Jerry now has four daughters, Colleen (Curran)
Goetz, Erin (Curran) Davis, Kerry (Curran) Nissen, and Amy (Curran)
Adamski.
Genevieve's other sons gave her
the joy of being a grandmother. Jack and Peggy had Shaun (Casey)
Curran and Brenda Curran. Pat and Joan had Christopher
Curran.
Genevieve retired in 1978 after
teaching over 400 student nurses. She spent most of her time
enjoying her friends and family while she was healthy.
Genevieve
became a Great Grandmother when Colleen (daughter of Jerry) had her
first child Lauren Joy Goetz, since that time Genevieve has had a total
of eight Great Grandchildren all from Jerry's Girls. Her
grandchildren include Lauren,
Shane & Delaney Goetz; Luke & Jeremiah(JD) Davis; Katie, Noah
& Mallory Nissen.
Genevieve Curran was
cherished and loved by family, friends and co-workers. |
